Description

Purpose of the Study.-The purpose of this study has been to obtain a picture of the farm mortgage situation in that part of the state where Hyde County is located. The procuring of information in regard to present and past conditions of the farm land indebtedness situation is a necessary preliminary to an understanding of the mortgage credit problems involved. It is also a prerequisite to any constructive measures for the improvement of rural credit conditions as they apply to loans secured by mortgages on land and its permanent improvements. For this purpose information has been assembled on the amount of indebtedness, the acreage encumbered, the cost of funds, length of term, source of funds, debt per acre, delinquencies and foreclosures as well as the influence of land purchases on indebtedness.
