Preparation and Spectral Properties of Monoimines of Tetramethyl-1,3-Cyclobutanedione

Abstract
Four new aromatic aliphatic monoimines or 2,2,4,4-tetramethly1-1,3-cyclobutanedione were prepared. These are 2,2,4,4-tetralethyl1-3-n-hexyliminocyclobutanone, (7), 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl1-3-N-(p-bromophenyl)-iminocyclobutanone, (11), and 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl1-3-N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)- iminocyclobutanone, (12). The various kinds of spectral data from mass, infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, ultraviolet, and photoelectronic spectroscopy, supported by ab initio Gaussian 70 calculationd, are presented and examined. Discussions of the interaction between the two chromophores of the monoimines, relative to the parental diketone and bisimines, are presented.
