Abstract

The objective of this thesis is to develop a model which will more accurately forecast, or predict, slaughter steer prices at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The specific objectives are: (1) Analyze prices of slaughter steer at Sioux Falls, South Dakota to determine and describe the existence of historical trends and seasonal price patterns; (2) Utilize autoregressive and moving average techniques to predict other price variations; (3) Identify the significance variables in explaining the slaughter steers prices; and of theoretically important variations in Sioux Falls slaughter steers prices; and (4) Utilize models developed to fulfill objective one, two and three, to predict prices of slaughter steers at Sioux Falls, and evaluate the accuracy of these models predictions.
