Abstract
Taxes have been in the past and undoubtedly will continue to be in the future of governments and peoples. That the statement is true in South Dakota and in Brookings County we will agree. In order that one may know more of South Dakota taxes one must attempt to dig from the records available facts that are worth while. In this state the property tax , or general tax, has been the major source of revenue. This property tax is the subject of the this study. The purpose of the investigation has been to discover the trends of property taxes in Brookings County and in South Dakota during the period from 1915 to 1932.
