Abstract
The purpose of this study was to generate meaningful data on the prevalence and patterns of physical abuse during, pregnancy among women residing in a small urban area of a predominantly rural North Central state. The secondary goals of the study were: (a) to assess a need to broaden current services for abused pregnant women in the community, and (b) to empower women to better protect themselves and their unborn children by providing them with additional information about community resources for survivors of battering during pregnancy.
