Abstract

The objectives of this study are to determine:
1. How self—esteem in adolescents changes over time when interrupted by a surgical procedure that causes visible scarring.
2. How body image in adolescents changes over time when interrupted by a surgical procedure that causes visible scarring.
3. How the relationship of body image and self-esteem change over the course of surgical intervention.
4. The relationship of self-esteem and body image changes and their relationship to other variables such as age, sex and choice to have surgery.
