Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop a remote control device for actuation of a hydraulic control valve. This work was funded in part by a grant from Du-Al Manufacturing Company of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The following design criteria were established by Du-Al and University personnel: 1. Low cost—the manufacturer’s cost should be under $50 per spool. 2 Operation of the loader should be similar to the original system. 3. The controller should be adaptable to existing loaders. 4. The controller should fit any combination of tractor-cab-loader. 5 A higher order of reliability under the severe operating conditions of farm use must be maintained. 6. It should be possible to disconnect the loader-controller combination easily. 7. The control system must be fail-safe. 8. Operator retaining should not be necessary.
