Description
This publication describes in general the characteristics and qualities of soils recognized to date in South Dakota. It shows the distribution and areal extent of the state’s soils. It is primarily for educational purposes. For specific purposes, such as farm planning, public land acquisition, flood control, and engineering uses, consult large scale county soil surveys. The County Extension Agent and the Soil Conservation Service Officer in your area have specific soil information.
A glossary of soil-related terms is included in the appendix. The appendices also include a map showing the progress of soil surveys in South Dakota, and a description of the soils on experimental fields, along with a tabular listing of research carried out each site.
