Description
This paper summarizes changes in forests, riparian areas, and wildlife of the Black Hills since Euro-American settlement in the 1870s. Specific objectives were to:
1) Document conditions of forests, riparian ecosystems, and associated wildlife prior to Euro-American settlement in the 1870s through historical references; and,
2) Compare historical and current conditions to ascertain ecosystem shifts incurred during the past 120 years.
