Abstract

JoAnn Olson Goodale and Eugene C. Goodale were residents of Brookings, South Dakota, and alumni of South Dakota State University. Eugene C. Goodale (ca. 1935–2022) graduated from South Dakota State College in 1957 with a degree in civil engineering and pursued a career in engineering. JoAnn Goodale, originally from Huron, South Dakota, earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South Dakota State College in 1959 and later completed a master’s degree in rehabilitation administration and management at DePaul University. She worked in nursing and remained active in community service. The Goodales were active supporters of South Dakota State University, contributing to scholarship funding in engineering and nursing and participating in alumni and philanthropic initiatives recognized by the South Dakota State University Foundation.

The Goodale Papers consist of scanned page printouts of a scrapbook documenting the Goodales’ experiences as South Dakota State College students from 1953 to 1957, along with materials collected following their graduation through 2013. The collection documents student life and alumni engagement and is significant for illustrating mid-twentieth-century experiences at South Dakota State College and the ongoing relationship between alumni and the institution.
