Abstract

The Lonita Gustad Corothers Papers document the life and writings of a South Dakota pharmacist whose extensive personal record spans more than six decades. The collection is centered on diaries kept from 1945 to 2010, offering detailed accounts of daily life, family relationships, education, and religious reflection, including her experiences as a pharmacy student at South Dakota State College and observations in the immediate aftermath of World War II. Supplementary materials include indexed timeline notebooks, thematic excerpts, transcriptions with later commentary, and reorganized diary volumes.

Also included is correspondence with her husband, Thomas Corothers, primarily from their courtship and early marriage, as well as a grief notebook reflecting on his death. Corothers’ creative work is represented through poetry binders, notebooks, and assorted writings that explore themes such as faith, love, loss, and aging. The collection provides a rich, continuous autobiographical record that offers insight into personal, social, and emotional experiences across the mid- to late twentieth century.
