Exhibit Dates: December 2016 - March 2017
About the Exhibit:
While developing a manuscript on renowed Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri, Dr. Leda Cempellin in conjunction with the SDSU University Archives and Hilton M. Briggs Library Special Collections put together an exhibit highlighting the experimental literature published by Something Else Press between 1964 and 1974. Fluxus artist Dick Higgins founded Something Else Press on February 2nd, 1964 in New York City. Artists, dancers, to poets, writers, artists and even a composer alternated their services to the press. Something Else Press contributed to disseminate Fluxus intermedia work, ranging from concrete poetry, to experimental literature pieces, to avant-garde work, to collected documents in the most unusual and unconventional formats. During the decade of its activity, the press produced 95 titles. This exhibition displayed a selection from the nineteen titles hold by SDSU Archives and Special Collections at Hilton Briggs Library.
