The following collection of student works was compiled to aid in decreasing the intimidation associated with communication theory. Communication Theory: In Our Words exists to illustrate various theories through the words of student scholars. Students in Dr. Karla Hunter’s class are given autonomy to study theories of interest to them while simultaneously viewing them through diverse lenses. Dr. Hunter encourages gradual exposure to theory through experiences that guide students in applying and evaluating communication theories. These projects help students to understand and recognize the presence of these theories within public speaking, interpersonal and organizational communication, and day-to-day interactions with others. By grounding these observations and experiences in communication theories, we can begin to demystify this area of study for current students and students to come. Communication Theory: In Our Words allows for theory to become less intimidating, more appliable, and even enjoyable.
