Abstract
The complex role of informal caregiving can be a rewarding experience however it can also add stress and limit social activities, which may resulting in caregiver strain. Healthcare professionals need to proactively evaluate informal caregivers for exhaustion, emotional distress, and caregiving strain. This DNP project identified and decreased caregiver strain by screening informal caregivers using the Modified Caregiver Strain Index (CSI) and providing an educational and resourceful toolkit about caregiving. Although statistically the data was not found to be significant, identifying informal caregiving strain and decreasing 50% of the participants Modified CSI scores illustrated clinical significance. Discussing caregiving strain should be incorporated into routine healthcare visits for the caregiver and the loved one receiving care. This conversation amongst the caregiver and healthcare provider will aim to ensure the well-being of the caregiver and the delivery of quality comprehensive care to their loved ones.
