Abstract

It would be an understatement to say that our world and its’ problems are as complex as ever. When developing models it is essential that we create some simplified view of a system in order to focus on relevant information, while remaining aware of interdependencies with external systems. While this is somethings we all do to explain events, correlations, or estimate the impact of a decision; how often do you practice this approach of thinking intentionally? As data scientist, we find ourselves increasingly looked to as a primary source for answers and solutions. This task comes with the responsibility to consider perspectives outside our specialization in hopes of gaining understanding around our most urgent problems. In this session, we will explore the importance of understanding complexity in a concise and deliberate way to maximize the net benefit. Invited
