Abstract
Opportunities Farm was donated to South Dakota State University in 2001 with the intention of using the farm as a learning tool for SDSU students. Opportunities Farm has a farm manager and is financially controlled by the SDSU Foundation. Concerns regarding the financial position of Opportunities Farm have arisen and it has been requested that a study of Opportunities Farm be conducted. Opportunities Farm represents a potential competitive advantage to SDSU. In this paper, current literature on farm management and finance is studied. Further, financial statements for Opportunities Farm, are prepared that are specifically designed for a farm's financial information needs will help assure that the farm's advantages are fully capitalized.
