Abstract
This thesis discusses studying corporate influence in American life as the guiding theme of the Composition I classroom at South Dakota State University in the Spring 2013, Fall 2013, and Spring 2014 semesters. Additionally, this research implemented critical pedagogical practices designed to help students become more active learners. The document provides a background of corporate influence in America, an overview of the foundational texts of critical pedagogy, an explanation of the practices instituted, data collected during the research, and a brief discussion of the conclusions that can be drawn from this research.
