Abstract
When South Dakota was admitted into the Union the Federal government granted the State 3,499,222 acres of land, the proceeds from the sale and lease of which were to be used for educational purposes. On June 30th, 1938, 576,949 acres of the original lands granted had been sold for the sum of $17,744,240.11.
