Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide information concerning the county agent columns written in South Dakota, what they are like, what they contain, and how they compete with other weekly newspaper features in the same newspaper in terms of readership. One of the purposes of this study is to determine whether or not the typical column written in South Dakota fits into this format. Once it has been determined what constitutes a the typical county agent’s column, this study will go on to analyze the readership of four columns in an effort to find out how well these county agent columns compete with other features in the weekly newspaper. The hypothesis of this study is that the agricultural column written by county agents in South Dakota has high readership appeal to the weekly and bi-weekly newspaper reader.
