Abstract
The majority of coaches and physical educators recognize that the execution of physical skills is interwoven with many factors of the athlete- his intelligence, personality, and spiritual and social background. The question that arises is, how does something outside our physical system affect change inside that system? One of the most important factors affecting performance, in many instances, is the make-up of the personality or emotional side of the participants. Only recently has limited research been conducted into the make-up of the student’s personality and its importance in athletics and physical education. The primary purpose of this study was to determine whether or not there are measurable difference=s in selected personality traits between first team football players, first team basketball players, and most valuable cross-country runners when compared to the remaining football, basketball, and cross-country squad members.
