Abstract
This study will attempt to investigate the following problem: What changes have transpired in the population aged 65 years and over in South Dakota from 1960 to 1970, and how do these changes very when associated with and controlled for selected demographic variables? The objectives of this thesis are as follows: 1. To determine the changes that have occurred in the population of South Dakota aged 65 and over from 1960 to 1970. 2. To analyze the changes that have occurred in the population of South Dakota aged 65 and over from 1960 to 1970 by comparing them to the changes in the same population for the United States as a whole, selected regions and to other states from 1960 to 1970. 3. To determine how the changes observed in the population of South Dakota of those 65 years of age and over from 1960 to 1970 varied by county, residence, age, sex, race, size of place, and rural urban distribution. 4. To determine the extent to which variations observed in selected demographic factors are associated with variations in the changes observed in the population of the state aged 65 and older from 1960 to 1970.
