Abstract
This these is concerned with a study of the study of the root nodule bacteria associate with native legumes. In the study cultural characteristics were observed along with physiological properties of the native bacterial isolates. These were compared with known rhizobium cultures. Cross inoculation studies were done to see in the rhizobia were specific or had a wide host range. Nitrogen fixation was determined by the Kjeldahl and acetylene reduction methods to determine the amount of nitrogen fixed by the symbiosis of bacterial isolates with the host plant and other legume species.
