Abstract
It is the intention in this paper to outline for general use the information that should be obtained in a survey for a proposed bridge in order that it may be designed with full knowledge of the conditions it must meet satisfactorily in service. The Manuals herein are written for conditions that exist in the Mississippi Basin and particularly the North Central States but will find general application with minor changes.
