During the 10-year period, 1956-1965, South Dakota farmers annually planted an average of approximately 1,600,000 acres of hard, red spring wheat and 118,000 acres of durum wheat. South Dakota ranks third in the nation in spring wheat production from the standpoint of acres planted and bushels produced.
