This publication provides information on plants that are poisonous to animals because they contain hydrogen cyanide, also known as HCN, hydrocyanic acid, or cyanide. The action of prussic acid in the body, symptoms of poisoning, and feeds involved are explained, as well as the effect of frost, drought, curing, and chopping on these plants. Confusion with nitrate poisoning, control measures, treatment, and instructions for sampling, interpreting, and analyzing samples are also described.
