Abstract
This paper discusses the impact resistance of the mantis shrimp structure. Using past studies, an experiment was performed to identify an optimal wall thickness of a modified mantis shrimp structure. Various samples were 3-D printed using PLA and subjected to compression testing. Analysis of the data resulted in the finding that a wall thickness of 1.4 mm is the optimal thickness to obtain a lightweight, but impact resistant structure. These results are discussed further, along with any limitations of the findings.
