Abstract

Please be advised that the names listed in the program do not serve as official confirmation of meeting the graduation requirements. The 130th Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies at South Dakota State University are scheduled for May 7, 2016, featuring both morning and afternoon sessions. Each ceremony will begin with introductory remarks by University President David L. Chicoine. Provost Laurie Nichols, Vice President for Academic Affairs, will recognize student honors. Lt. Col. Craig McGuin and Lt. Col. Corey Ness will acknowledge Army and Air Force commissions. The MORNING ceremony will confer undergraduate degrees from the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Science, the College of Engineering, and the College of Nursing. Honorary marshals for this session are Gregg Carlson, Professor of Plant Science, and Joan Hegerfeld-Baker, Assistant Professor and SDSU Extension Food Safety Specialist. The commencement address, titled "Toward a Legacy of Service," will be delivered by Col. Evan Renz from the Brooke Army Medical Center. Larry Ness will be presented with an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree. Jeremiah Atkinson, a candidate for graduation, will provide comments on behalf of the graduating class. In the AFTERNOON ceremony, degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education and Human Sciences, and the College of Pharmacy will be conferred. Honorary marshals for this session are Bruce Brandt, Professor of English, and John Taylor, Professor Emeritus of English. Ann Schmitt, Vice President of Enterprise Consumer Payments at the Walt Disney Company, will deliver the commencement address titled "When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do." Brigadier General Myrna H. Williamson will receive an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree. Joseph Schartz, a candidate for graduation, will provide comments on behalf of the graduating class.
