Abstract

Please be advised that the names listed in the program do not constitute official confirmation of meeting the graduation requirements. The 131st Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies at South Dakota State University, scheduled for May 6, 2017, will comprise morning and afternoon sessions. Each ceremony will begin with introductory remarks by University President Barry H. Dunn. Provost Dennis D. Hedge, Vice President for Academic Affairs, will recognize student honors. Lt. Col. Craig McGuin and Lt. Col. Corey Norris will acknowledge Army and Air Force commissions. The MORNING ceremony will confer degrees from the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences, Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, and the College of Nursing. University President Barry H. Dunn will introduce the ceremony. Honorary marshals for this session are Charles Dieter, Professor of Natural Resource Management, and Neil Reese, Professor of Biology and Microbiology. The commencement address, titled "Well, that would have been good to know," will be delivered by Kathy Walker of OpenAir Equity Partners. Jeff Broin will be honored with a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree. Benjamin Gillette, a candidate for graduation, will provide comments on behalf of the graduating class. The AFTERNOON ceremony will confer degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education and Human Services, and the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. Honorary marshals for this session are Tim Steele, Professor, School of Design, and Deb Farver, Professor of Pharmacy Practice. The commencement address, titled "TOUGH love, HARD work, EARNED wins and memories MADE!" will be delivered by Mike Huether, Mayor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Senator Tim Johnson will be awarded a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree. Student honors will be acknowledged, and recognition of Army and Air Force officer commissions will be included. Allyson Helms, a candidate for graduation, will provide comments on behalf of the graduating class.
