Abstract
Almost without exception the ideal of full and free owner-operated type farmsteads has prevailed throughout the United States since the settlement of the land in this country. Whether or not such an ideal is plausible has often been open to contention, openly, or in the minds of those who have given the matter serious consideration. The ideal has been so generally accepted and supported that it has been, and still is, a tangible force in local and national agricultural affairs.
