Abstract
The purpose of this study is to discover the current status of discussion contests in high school and college forensics activities and to determine if discussion will be included as a forensics activity in the future. To achieve this purpose this study attempts to answer the following questions: 1. What were the origins of contest discussion? 2. How were early discussion contests developed and organized? 3. What difficulties and criticisms has discussion encountered throughout its history? 4. How has discussion changed through the years? 5. What is the current status of discussion as a contest event? 6. Are discussion contests likely to continue in the future?
