Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the predictability of the BWAPT among patients in a midwestern tertiary care center. This study was a replication of a study conducted by Burns et al. (1992) at the University of Virginia. The following research questions were addressed:
1. To what extent does the Burn's Wean Assessment Program Tool predict a patient's ability to be sucessfully weaned from mechanical ventilation?
2. What is/are the predominant factor(s) that influence a patient's total BWAPT score?
3. What variables of the BWAPT differentiate successful weaning from unsuccessful weaning?
