Abstract

The objective of this work was to develop a definitive characterization of the relative radiometric gain of all reflective channels of the Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper instrument. This thesis work is an effort to finish earlier work at EROS Data Center that had produced encouraging initial results. The goal was to develop quantitative models for each of the detectors/channels in the Thematic Mapper. A scene-based approach is used in order to calculate relative gain for each detector. Relative gain (RG) is calculated as (Detector mean / Scene mean). The scenes used in this analysis were artifact corrected before the relative gain calculations were performed. The relative gain values are then modeled into 0th order or 1st order linear models for all detectors/channels. These statistical models are then applied to all the detectors and are used to correct the scene data. The relative gain correction removes residual striping present in scene data. A quantitative analysis was then done to measure the amount of destriping in the scene data.
