Abstract
Collaboration between cultural geographers and cultural anthropologists is long established and well documented. Few geographers, however, have explored the possibilities of how to incorporate Leslie A. White's ideas regarding the concept of culture, which are the foundation of cultural geography. This study reveals the importance of his theories of energy consumption and the concept of cultural systems and their potential benefits in terms of geographic research. It also sheds additional light on how different interpretations of the concept of culture have influenced the evolution of cultural geographic thought.
