Abstract

Since 1984 the use of laptop technology has continued to grow in both K-12 and higher education classrooms. Some schools are introducing a laptop initiative, others find they can't maintain equipment or verify improved student outcomes. While there are many ways to implement and maintain a laptop program, one characteristic is common to the schools: if students don't perceive value in using the laptops or don't use them appropriately, there will be little or no benefit in using them. This study investigated perceptions and habits of college students who are using or expect to use laptops and found that students on one college campus said they experienced a greater benefit in using laptops than they expected.
