Abstract
This thesis explores the nature of marital communication satisfaction in couples with young children. Specifically, the study investigates gender, length of marriage, age at birth of child, gender of child and temperament of the child and communication satisfaction in the marriage. Participants (n=41) in the transition to parenthood stage were asked to recall their perceptions of satisfaction with communication in their marriage by completing a communication satisfaction survey. Participants were also asked to complete a qualitative item where they described how their communication changed during the transition to parenthocxl. Results suggest that there is no significant effect from transition to parenthood on the perceptions of communication satisfaction in marital couples.
