Abstract
This study explored factors associated with adolescent victimization. Utilizing the Lifestyle/Exposure Model of Personal Victimization (Hindelang et al, 1978} the study analyzed the relationship between adolescent victimization and deviant behavior, as well as the utility of elements of the social bond for insulating adolescents from exposure to victimization. Utilizing data from Monitoring the Future: A Continuing study of the Lifestyles and Values of Youth, findings indicate substantial evidence of victim-offender overlap among high school seniors for all dimensions of deviant behavior including: criminal behavior, heavy alcohol use, marijuana use, hard drug use, and dangerous driving. A weak association between lifestyle and association indicators demonstrates the need for further explication of lifestyle measures in the adolescent population as well as further attention to the viability of elements of the social bond for explaining deviant behavior.
