Abstract
Using Jones and Yarbrough's (1985) categories as the base, this study examines the modes of touch defined by Hall in 1963. The results suggest there are differences in the levels of appropriateness in the modes of touch as well as the categories of touch. According to the study, several differences do occur between genders. It appears that certain categories of touch and certain modes of touch are more appropriate than others involved in the study.
