Abstract
Using feminist rhetorical criticism (Foss, 2004), the researcher analyzed four episodes of VH-1 's Rock of Love and eight participants blogs. This method of analysis was used to examine the construction and implications of gender in both artifacts. The researcher reviewed literature about reality television programs, cultivation theory, reality dating television programs, gender themes, and objectification theory. The analysis focused on cultural expectations for men and women. Expectations for women include cultural expectations for physical appearance such as dressing provocatively, dating expectations such as females are only allowed to date Michaels, and drinking alcohol. Expectations for men include focusing on physical appearance of others, dating several females at one time, and drinking alcohol.
