Abstract

As the events brought about by the triumph of the Salk poliomyelitis vaccine unfolded, the media religiously pursued each and every aspect remotely related to this topic. This study, then, provides a historical content analysis regarding the print material published in The New York Times about the polio vaccine during a time when the press and public were fascinated by the areas medicine, health and science.
