Abstract

As the development of tools and the exploration of the methods for collecting images increases, a great volume of image resources are gathered on the web for public browsing. Image retrieving tools or systems play an important role for retrieving user needed image resources from internet. This thesis presents a novel image retrieving system Image Semantic Search System (ISSS), which provides users better searching experience. ISSS is designed and implemented based on Semantic Web concepts and techniques. The methodology focuses on providing user friendly interfaces to communicate with users and search resources semantically. Semantic Web is helpful to convert the unstructured or semi-structured resources into structured and machine understandable resources so that it can improve the relevance of searching results. iv The architectural design ofISSS allows it to be extendable and reusable. ISSS can be extended to retrieve any image resources from different domains based on different needs and ISSS can be reused by being plugged into any website for searching and retrieving image resources.
