Abstract
This study is primarily a content analysis of over 1,000 datelines from the Soviet Union, as found in three American daily newspapers. The results of computer analysis reflect the Soviet government's restrictions on travel within the USSR (especially those imposed on foreign journalists). Also explained are the history of the USSR and its republics and the history of American journalism in Russia.
