Abstract
This study examined perceived importance and competency levels of topics relevant to a curriculum in building construction cost estimating as part of the Construction Management program at South Dakota State University. Surveys were completed by 28 members of the Associated General Contractors of South Dakota Building Chapter. A number of topic areas were evaluated including: Academic, Computer, Contractual, Estimating, Management and Methods & Materials. Results indicate an emphasis on quantity surveying, estimating procedures, computer use and contract document interpretation. Results also indicate that work experience in the construction field would be very helpful to students in the program. (Thirteen tables of data are included; seven references are attached).
