Abstract

The purpose of this study has been to make an analysis of contrastive communicative styles and genderlects between Koreans and Americans through the personal anecdotes, movies, T.V. drama transcriptions, proverbs, and a survey. Obviously, Koreans and Americans have their own characteristic conversational styles between men and women because Koreans and Americans belong to quite different cultures, especially with regard to respect for individualism. It is, therefore, natural that there exist cross-cultural communicative styles and cross-cultural genderlects between Koreans and Americans.
