Abstract
Interviews were conduct in order to get an overview of what counselors in South Dakota are doing in regard to prevention, and treatment. Information about what resources and supports are available for counselors in South Dakota was also sought. The purpose of this study is to discover: 1) what counselors in South Dakota are doing to prevent eating disorders, 2) what counselors in South Dakota are doing to treat clients with eating disorders 3) what resources are available to counselors in South Dakota in the area of eating problems, and what additional resources they would like to have available. Responses from interviews of 15 professionals from Eastern South Dakota were organized into themes. Overall, counselors in South Dakota fall along a continuum in respect to their knowledge and experience in the area of eating disorders. Most individuals fall in the middle of the continuum, while there are also some on either extreme.
