The objective of this study was to examine how Joint Ventures (JVs) understand HD, identify existing capacity gaps, and explore opportunities for HD integration across two JVs in the Midwest. This dataset contains freelist responses collected from participants of the two JVs. The dataset is organized across three spreadsheet tabs corresponding to the three freelist prompts: (1) “Please list all aspects, themes, or concepts you consider part of HD in conservation,” (2) “Please list for me what a Joint Venture needs to better incorporate HD into their work,” and (3) “Please list for me all of the ways that a Joint Venture could incorporate HD into their work.” Each sheet includes participants' unique responses, intermediate groupings developed during data cleaning, and final category classifications. Responses for prompts 2 and 3 were further subjected to salience analysis and Monte Carlo analysis in R (Smith & Borgatti, 1997; Chaves et al., 2019)

Methods Summary: The freelist data was collected between August 2025 and January 2026 through one-on-one interviews conducted via Zoom with 29 members of the two JVs. Each interview included a freelist activity with the three freelist prompts. Freelist responses were imported into Excel and cleaned, and yielded 128, 129, and 120 unique responses collapsed into final categories. Responses for prompts 2 and 3 were further subjected to salience analysis and Monte Carlo analysis in R.   File type: xlsx
