Abstract

Please note: The names listed in the program are not official confirmation of meeting the graduation requirements. Commencement for the 136th Commencement at South Dakota State University consists of a morning afternoon, and evening ceremony. Each program will commence with introductions by University President Barry H. Dunn. Dennis D. Hedge, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will acknowledge student honors and Lt. Col. Jason A. Haufschild, Air Force ROTC, recognizing Army and Air Force commissions for each ceremony. The MORNING ceremony (page 7) will mark the conferral of undergraduate and graduate degrees from the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences, along with the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering. Van Kelley, Head of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, and Bob Thaler, a Distinguished Professor, and SDSU (South Dakota State University) Extension Swine Specialist will serve as honorary marshals. Dan Rykhus will be recognized with a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree. Shayanti Minj (Biological Sciences) and T.J. Bigge (Agricultural Education, Communication, and Leadership) will present the commencement address as a representative of the graduating class. The AFTERNOON ceremony (page 27) will mark the conferral of undergraduate and graduate degrees upon the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the College of Education and Human Sciences. Eluned Jones, the Ness Director of the Ness School of Management and Economics, and Andrew J. Stremmel, a distinguished Professor from the School of Education, Counseling, and Human Development serve as honorary marshals. Samantha Gortmaker will present the commencement address as a representative of the graduating class. The EVENING ceremony (page 48) will confer undergraduate and graduate degrees from the College of Nursing, the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, and the College of Natural Sciences. Brenda Anderson, Associate Director of the SDSU Student Health Clinic and Counseling Services, Mary Caspers-Graper, Head of the Briggs Library Acquisitions Department, and Yang Yen, Professor of Biology and Microbiology will serve as honorary marshals. Bev Warne will be recognized with a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree. Bikram Kumar Das (Biological Sciences) and Zachary Lehmann (Biochemistry and Physics) will present comments on behalf of the graduating class.
