Abstract

Please note: The names listed in the program are not official confirmation of meeting the graduation requirements. Commencement for the 135th Commencement at South Dakota State University consists of morning and afternoon ceremonies on May 8th and May 9th. Each program will commence with introductions by University President Barry H. Dunn. Dennis D. Hedge, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will acknowledge student honors and Lt. Col. Jason A. Haufschild, Air Force ROTC, and Lt. Col. Jason W. Kettwig, Army ROTC, recognizing Army and Air Force commissions for each ceremony. The SATURDAY MORNING ceremony (page 7) will mark the conferral of undergraduate and graduate degrees from the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences, along with the College of Natural Sciences. Jane Christopher-Hennings, Professor/Head of the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences and Director of the Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, and Michael Hildreth, Professor/Coordinator of Biology and Microbiology/Veterinary Biomedical Sciences will serve as honorary marshals. Keri Pappas, Human Biology and Microbiology, will address the graduating class on their behalf. The SATURDAY AFTERNOON ceremony (page 25) will confer degrees upon graduates from the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Lyle Olson, Professor/Director of the School of Communication and Journalism, and Mark Freeland, Assistant Professor/Coordinator, American Indian Studies will serve as honorary marshals. Thalissa Grant-McClure, Mass Communication, and Madison Dulas, Sociology will give addresses as representatives of the graduating class. The SUNDAY MORNING ceremony (page 40) will confer undergraduate and graduate degrees from the College of Education and Human Sciences and the College of Nursing. Mary Gengler, Lecturer in Health and Nutritional Sciences, and Venita Winterboer, Lecturer of Undergraduate Nursing will serve as honorary marshals. Brianna Vig, Sport and Recreation Administration, and Caitlin Thilges, Leadership and Management of Nonprofit Organizations, will present comments on behalf of the graduating class. The SUNDAY AFTERNOON ceremony (page 56) will confer undergraduate and graduate degrees from the College of Pharmacy and Allien Health Professions and the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering. Xiangming Guan, Associate Dean for Research/Professor of the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, and Teresa Keys Hall, Professor Emerita/Director/Head of the Department of Construction and Operations Management will serve as honorary marshals. Gavin Doering, Mathematics and Data Science will present comments on behalf of the graduating class.
