Abstract

Please note: The names listed in the program are not official confirmation of meeting the graduation requirements. Commencement for the 134th Commencement at South Dakota State University consists of morning, afternoon, and ceremonies on May 9th. Commencement was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each program will commence with introductions by University President Barry H. Dunn. Dennis D. Hedge, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will acknowledge student honors. Lt. Col. Brian K. Shroeder, Air Force ROTC, and Lt. Col. Stephen Sewell, Army ROTC, will recognize Army and Air Force commissions for each ceremony. Mary Kay Helling, Vice Provost, will give a commencement address at each ceremony titled, “Dear Class of 2020: Stay Strong and Persevere.” The MORNING ceremony (page 8) will mark the conferral of undergraduate degrees from the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Science, the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, the College of Natural Sciences, and the College of Nursing. Jeff Held, Professor Emeritus of Animal Science, and Rich Reid, Associate Dean/Professor of Engineering will serve as honorary marshals. Leon Wrage will be recognized with a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree. Selene Renes, Civil Engineering, will present comments on behalf of the graduating class. The AFTERNOON ceremony (page 28) will mark the conferral of undergraduate degrees from the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the College of Education and Human Sciences, and the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. Mary Kay Helling, Vice Provost, and Michael Adelaine, Vice President for Technology and Security will serve as honorary marshals. Allyson Monson, Political Science, and Communication Studies will present comments on behalf of the graduating class. The EVENING commencement ceremony (page 46) will mark the conferral of graduate degrees. Darrell Napton, Professor of Geography and Geospatial Science, and Anne Fennel, Distinguished Professor of Agronomy, Horticulture, and Plant Science will serve as honorary marshals. Amber Alvey, Communication and Media Studies will present comments on behalf of the graduating class.
