Abstract

Please be advised that the names listed in the program do not constitute official confirmation of meeting the graduation requirements. The 132nd Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies at South Dakota State University, scheduled for May 5, 2018, will comprise morning, afternoon, and evening sessions. Each ceremony will begin with remarks by University President Barry H. Dunn. Provost Dennis D. Hedge, Vice President for Academic Affairs, will acknowledge student honors. Lt. Col. Brian K. Schroeder and Lt. Col. Corey Norris will recognize recipients of Army and Air Force commissions. The MORNING ceremony will confer degrees from the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences, Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering, and the College of Nursing. Honorary marshals for this session are Thomas Stenvig, Associate Professor of Nursing, and William Gibbons, Distinguished Professor of Microbiology. The commencement address, titled "$100-an-hour Jobs," will be delivered by Brian Hefty, CEO of the Hefty Seed Company. Marcella LeBeau will be honored with a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree. Jacob Gubbrud, a candidate for graduation, will provide comments on behalf of the graduating class. The AFTERNOON ceremony will confer degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education and Human Sciences, and the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. Honorary marshals for this session are Dan Kemp, Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, and Kendra Kattlemann, Distinguished Professor of Health and Nutritional Sciences. Dr. Rick Holm, Geriatrics and Internal Medicine at Avera, will deliver the commencement address titled "The Spiderman Imperative." Viraj Patel, a candidate for graduation, will give comments on behalf of the graduating class.
