Abstract
This study examines the effect of nonverbal communication on initial interactions. More specifically, the study questions the effect of nonverbal affect displays on uncertainty reduction using Clatterbuck's Clues instrument, and social and physical attraction using McCroskey and McCain's attractiveness scale. The results suggest nonverbal affect displays do not affect uncertainty reduction. However, both social and physical attractiveness levels vary significantly among some affect displays. The results provide insight for initial interpersonal interactions.
